On June 22, 2021, the IC College, which was jointly established by the School of New Materials and New Energy of Shenzhen University and the chip manufacturer Semiconductor Manufacturing International Co (SMIC), was officially inaugurated.

The school was launched to meet the rapidly growing demand for IC professionals in the Chinese market in the future.

Ruan Shuangchen, president of Shenzhen University of Technology, opened the ceremony, stating that the huge shortage of industry talents is one of the most serious problems facing China’s dynamic development of the IC industry. Other speeches introduced the IC Academy as well as highlighted the huge opportunities in the promising fields of 5G, artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and new energies.

Among other interesting personalities, Maggie Song, General Manager Suzhou SAWATEC Semiconductor Systems Co., Ltd. was also invited to address words to the audience based on her many years in the industry. Maggie Song mainly shared her rich experience with the students and told them about her own journey from being a college teacher to entering the semiconductor industry. She hopes that during the learning process, the students will continue to strengthen their love for the industry and continue to grow with dedication, into the talents that the industry will need.
